Blood Flow Restriction
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) is a great tool for increasing muscle strength and size. This machine implements a tourniquet that restricts 80% of the blood flow to the leg, or 50% of blood flow to the arm. While wearing this tourniquet for a few minutes, a low-load exercise is performed to stress the muscles without stressing the joints under heavy weights. Performing exercises with restricted blood flow allows for muscle protein synthesis (muscles' ability to grow) as well as a release of human growth hormone.
BFR can specifically help with a faster recovery after a leg surgery. After an injury or not weight bearing through the leg, the muscles quickly atrophy. Some gentle leg exercises can be performed directly after surgery to increase the strength of the leg, especially the quadriceps muscles, without causing pain or damage to the surgical site.
BFR training is not limited to after surgery. Come in for a visit to determine if your physical pain can be alleviated by strength training with our blood flow restriction machine!
